Abstract / Abstrakt:
Image databases are getting ever larger. At present, text-based methods are usually used when searching for specific images in databases. Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) aims to enhance image search by using information about the contents of an image extracted directly from the pixel values. A brief introduction to CBIR will be given. This will include some of the techniques currently used for CBIR, as well as some of the problems that remain to be solved. Results of a recent study to find image features appropriate for searching a large image database used by journalists will be given.
